このシンポジウムは、悩みや苦しみを抱えた人たちへの傾聴者たるチャプレンの、先行事例とも言うべき欧州でのムスリムチャプレン（イスラームの信仰をもつ傾聴者ではあるが、対象は諸宗教／無宗教へと広く開かれている）の活動について、学ぶことを意図したものです。
チャプレンの活動・スピリチュアルケアの推進に取り組んでいる、上智大学大学院実践宗教学研究科／上智大学グリーフケア研究所にとって、ムスリムチャプレンが公務員として奉職している現状は、日本よりも1世代以上進んでいるように思われます。また、多文化がどのように共存していくかという課題に取り組んできた英国の歴史から、私たちが学ぶことはとてもおおいと思われます。関心ある多くの方のご参加をお待ちいたしております。

This symposium is intended to provide an opportunity to learn about the activities of Muslim chaplains in Europe—who can be considered a pioneering example of chaplains serving as listeners for people facing difficulties and suffering (though they have Islamic faith, their scope is broadly open to people of all religions and those without religious affiliation).
For the Graduate School of Applied Religious Studies, and the Institute of Grief Care at Sophia University —both of which are committed to promoting chaplaincy and spiritual care—the current situation in which Muslim chaplains serve as public officials appears to be at least a generation ahead of Japan. Furthermore, we believe there is much we can learn from the history of the United Kingdom, which has long grappled with the challenge of how diverse cultures can coexist. We look forward to welcoming many interested participants.
